Tips For Best Cookie Outcomes

Baking:

If you want your chocolate chip cookies to turn into the BEST chocolate chip cookies, make sure they are baked perfectly! Use the middle of the oven rack to get even heat on every cookie on the baking sheet. It’s best to bake one sheet at a time for consistent results.

Baking sheets:

You need to have the right products for the best outcomes, and that includes having the right baking sheets. The best cookie sheets would be shiny aluminium with smooth surfaces and no sides.

Due to the smooth shiny surface, they will reflect heat and cause all the cookies to bake evenly, browning them perfectly. The rimmed baking sheets are good for many recipes, but not for cookies.

Measurements:

Whenever you follow our recipe, just make sure you do everything according to it. The ingredients, the measurements, the baking tips, everything is well calculated and has very little margin of error.

To make the best cookies, you need to follow our recipe for the best chocolate chip cookies properly. So just focus widely on your measurements and get them right!

Flour has to be on point:

Now coming to flour measurements, people tend to make a big mistake by directly pouring the flour into a measuring cup. This causes inaccurate measurement due to the air pockets present between the flour.

The best way to avoid this is to first stir the flour with a wooden spoon properly, this causes the air pockets to compress. Then add the flour to the measuring cup to measure. Fill the cup to the edge and spoon off the excess flour, creating a flat surface.

Parchment Paper:

Line the baking sheets with some parchment paper to avoid any sort of mess while lifting the cookies. Cookies tend to stick to the baking sheets, and then break if you apply force.

To avoid this, cut a similar sized parchment paper and line it with the baking sheets. Place the cookies next to each other with a little distance between them, as they expand and might bump into each other.

Make even sized Cookies:

The cookies that you make need to be of similar size. This is why to use the scoop recommended and scoop out evenly sized cookie dough to prevent any errors in quantity.

The consistency will be accurate if you do this, then simply press the dough down with the back of the same scoop!

FAQ’s Regarding The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Why are my Cookies flat and why do they keep spreading?

There are multiple reasons why this happens. And according to my own experience, here are some reasons why:

  • Your baking powder or baking soda is expired or isn’t of the right quality. This usually happens because the raising agent isn’t working, how can you expect your cookies to fluff? Make sure you get a good quality baking powder for baking and always check the expiry dates.

Test your baking powder by adding some in a cup of hot water, if it starts bubbling, you’re good to go!

  • Over mixing is one other reason why your cookies might remain flat. Exhausting the potential of the ingredients you use will take away their ability to make your cookies expand and fluff.

Moreover, over mixing the cookie dough in my best chocolate chip cookies recipe will cause problems such as these.

  • Your ingredients might be too warm which causes them to expand in size but not fluff up. Be sure not to over mix because that causes your ingredients to heat up, hence giving you flat cookies.
  • Your oven temperature must be incorrect, buy a reasonably priced cooking thermometer and measure the temperature of your baked goods when you take them outta the oven to be sure if you need your oven to be fixed.

Why didn’t my Cookies spread?

There are a few reasons why this happens:

  • Your ingredients are either too cold, which causes them to stay structurally firm and not expand as they should.
  • Your oven temperature might be incorrect, and must not be providing the right amount of heat the cookies require to expand and spread.
  • You must have used too much flour, which is why to consult with my baking tips to learn how to measure flour accurately to avoid future baking errors.
  • Most importantly your butter/sugar mixture might not be creamed properly. Make sure you keep on mixing until it is perfectly creamed!

Hey Hearty, I love how easy the recipe is, I have one question though, Can we use chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips? Also what kind will be best? I love dark chocolate and was hoping to use some!

    • Hey Thomas, Yes you can use chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips! just use the same quantity of your favorite chocolate, chop it into small chunks and you’re good to go! If you want you can use dark chocolate as well but tat will make the taste bitter so if you’re into that go for it!
